Dufashanye Canada is a federal non-profit organization registered in Alberta since November 2009. It’s social head office is located in Edmonton, Alberta with an agency in the project area: Burundi.
Our goal is to help children in need and their families from the village of Kayange, in the town of Kiganda in the province of Muramvya in Burundi. The village of Kayange has a population of approximately 5,000 people, predominantly young. We initially aim to focus on the entire village and later look to other parts of the country according to our means.
Burundi, one of the poorest countries in the world, is currently recovering from a civil war which lasted more than 12 years causing the death of thousands of people, the destruction of properties and the flight of thousand and thousands of people fleeing to refugee camps in the border countries like Tanzania. Men were killed, many women left widowed, orphaned children became responsible for their households, school-age children became enrolled in combat groups, school and socioeconomic infrastructures were destroyed.
Dufashanye Canada is joining in the reconstructive efforts underway in Burundi. Two of our most important priorities are funding the education of children in need and the financing of small income generating projects
Through supporting childhood education and assisting families living in poverty, we will contribute to the growth of tomorrow’s Burundian leaders. Through the development of small projects, jobs will be created and subsequently income. Over time, our actions will succeed in reducing ignorance, poverty and social exclusion resulting in greater independence.
